Angola is famous for its art school. Among the most famous Angolan artists is Vitor Manuel Teixera, who is better known by his pseudonym Viteix. This artist had a great influence on the development of the Angolan school of art in the period after the independence of Angola from Portugal. Viteix learned his craft both in Luanda and in Lisbon. He also worked in Paris, where he received his Master of Fine Arts in 1973. For a long time he led the National Union of Artists of Angola (UNAP). The master’s works are presented in many countries of the world. His paintings reveal the universe of African culture. In them you can see many details typical for African masters in the choice of colors, shapes, textures. And because the fine arts of Angola originates long before our era. – the rock paintings in Kaningiri date back as far as 5-8 thousand BC, it is not surprising that in the paintings of Viteiks we can often see, as it were, an artistic story of African myths and fairy tales or a modern reproduction of rock paintings. Viteix died in 1993 and since then his paintings have only increased in value and are in demand not only in Angolan and Portuguese galleries and museums, although most of the paintings the artist’s family managed to keep in their possession.
